Alyssa brings to Eastern Counseling & Wellness a unique blend of clinical training and personal passions. A graduate of Boston College, Alyssa earned her degree in Clinical Social Work and went on to receive her advanced license as an independent clinical social worker. She maintains licenses in both Massachusetts, as well as her home state of Vermont.
Appreciating the special bond between humans and horses, Alyssa has managed to integrate her passion for riding along with equine therapy throughout New England. Working with various populations, she was able to witness the healing powers of slowing down and attuning to the body (human and horse!) in an effort to move through suffering. This modality of therapy also revealed the sacredness of fostering positive, loving relationships.
Alyssa’s traditional experience has led her to working in community health centers and school settings, supporting both youth and college-aged young adults.
She uses several therapeutic modalities, including:
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)
Strengths-Based & Mindfulness-Based Interventions
Alyssa’s areas of specialty:
Family of Origin Issues
Complex Trauma
Stress & Anxiety
Life Transitions
Intimacy Issues
Alyssa embraces a collaborative, holistic approach as she guides her clients in discovering and maintaining healthy coping skills and unraveling unproductive patterns. She understands that in order to heal, we must feel safe and supported while navigating difficult life issues. Her work, particularly with EMDR, helps to promote a balance between comfort and growth, connection and boundaries.
